SCANIA Trucks History

Scania AB - Swedish brand for the production of trucks and buses, headquartered in Sodertalje

The history of the Scania brand begins in 1920, when the largest company in Sweden producing trucks and buses was founded.

Created Scania was a group of enthusiasts who did not have significant financial capabilities, but who knew how to design and assemble excellent cars. It was their ability to transform an unknown brand, founded in 1910, into a world-famous trademark - Scania Vabis.

Under it, the company worked for fifty years, while the market did not quote its other name - Scania. This happened after the company's management concluded an agreement with the largest manufacturer of automobile and aviation products SAAB. As a result, in 1960 a new production and financial association SAAB-Scania was created. It is for today that it has the right to use the Scania brand.

In 1970, the corporation began the process of expanding its production facilities through the creation of numerous enterprises in Monaco, Morocco, Iraq and the United States. This step allowed to create a powerful international branch in Europe, which enabled him to reach the third place in the continent in terms of sales volume.

In 1980, the company launched production of Scania third-generation trucks with a carrying capacity of 32 tons. They had the engines with a cylinder capacity of 9.11 liters.

In 1996, the production of Scania trucks began, the body of which was designed by a well-known design company from Italy. They could already transport 48 tons

Currently, the company offers about three hundred variants of trucks equipped with comfortable sleeping places.

In April 1999, Scania became a subsidiary of Volvo and today the company has six plants located in Sweden and a staff of 23,800 people.

To date, Scania AB occupies 70% of the international truck market.
