Bobcat Tractors History

Bobcat Company is a manufacturer of agricultural and construction machinery based in North Dakota, USA. Initially, the company was called Melroe Manufacturing Company, and the name Bobcat was first voiced in 1962, so called one of the models of the loader. The company acquired the popularity, mainly thanks to the first mini-loader, which was invented almost 50 years ago in the USA for mechanization of labor-consuming loading and unloading operations in farms.

From 1995 to July 2007, Bobcat Company was a division of Ingersoll-Rand Company, currently owned by South Korean company Doosan Infracore. The list of manufactured equipment includes: compact excavators, loaders, bulldozers and other hydraulic equipment.

The company Bobcat begins its history in the USA in the state of North Dakota in 1958. Then the company bought the rights to a compact 3-wheel loader Keller from the Keller brothers, who subsequently successfully cooperated with Bobcat. In the same year, the first model of self-propelled loader M-60 is produced.

In 1959, Bobcat released an improved model of the M-200 loader, which differed from its predecessor with a powerful gasoline engine of 12.9 hp.

In 1960, the company produces the world's first compact loader with a side-turn and four-wheel drive M-400. Initially, Bobcat was called Melroe. Its catchy name, it acquired later in honor of the M-440 loader (upgraded version of the M-400), named in 1962, which was successfully launched.

In the same year, a logo was developed - a lynx inside a double oval, and the slogan "agile, fast, hardy" (like the lynx itself) was used to advertise forklifts. The logo for the first time decorated the loader M-440, and then all the models of Bobcat loaders.

In 1963, a model of the M-444 rotary-type loader was developed and exported to Europe. This model of technology brought real success to the company Bobcat due to the improved designs over which the engineers of the company worked for 2 years. The undeniable advantage of the M-444 was that they could be used in industry and construction.

Thus, the company Bobcat significantly expanded its production capabilities, not limited to the production of only agricultural machinery. In order to consolidate the European market, Bobcat in 1965 signed a licensing agreement with the English company Luff & Smith for the manufacture of forklifts with onboard drive.

In England, near Luff & Smith, Bobcat is building a new factory. And all in the same 1965 for the first time in its history, Bobcat produces a record number of forklifts that found their customers in different markets - from builders to fertilizer plants, from foundries to municipalities.

In 1967, Bobcat signed an agreement for the production of trucks in Europe with the Italian company Beltrami (Luff & Smith went bankrupt, and Bobcat had to look for a new partner). Then she acquires the company Reiten Manufacturing of Cooperstown.

In 1969, an American company was acquired by Clark Equipment Company. By the end of the 1960s, the Bobcat range included Merloe Pickup pick-up trucks, Harrowweeder weeding and harrowing machines, plow blades and much more. The beginning of the 1970s was marked by the modernization of production.

In 1970, the Bob-Tach system (rapid attachments) was introduced and the operator ROPS guarded against possible injuries in production. That year was also remembered by the start of production of the first loader with hydrostatic drive M-970. In the European market, the company's affairs went well, in 1971 it was possible to open a large marketing department in Brussels.

Since 2007, the company Bobcat belongs to the South Korean company Doosan Infracore. In the Czech Republic, a new training center and a factory have been opened, on which new models of forklifts with a telescopic lift are being manufactured.

In 2008, Bobcat celebrated its 50th anniversary. Intermediate results and an analysis of how the brand "Bobcat" was created were summed up. The fact is that after the end of the concept of loaders with the onboard drive + the constant growth of consumers allowed the company to develop and produce machines with unique characteristics. In the middle of the last century, the main emerging markets were fertilizer producers and dairy farms.

Specialists Bobcat came to a simple scheme - to paint machines in white paint as a symbol of cleanliness and sterility. This color, the new logo and the company's name have become the trademark of Bobcat, a sign of success and quality.

Company Bobcat today is the largest manufacturer of construction and agricultural machinery, having more than 900 dealers in more than 75 countries. The company's main products are compact excavators, attachments and skid steer loaders.
