MERCEDES Benz Trucks History

In 1886, Karl Benz created the world's first car, and in 1890 Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach founded the company Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft (DMG). It is believed that these two events are the beginning of the history of the company Mercedes-Benz

The first Mercedes car designed Maybach and was released by the DMG in 1901. In 1926, after the merger of Karl Benz and Gottlieb Daimler into Daimler-Benz, the cars began to be called Mercedes-Benz. At the beginning of the 20th century, in addition to cars, the company produced ship and aircraft engines, which gave rise in 1909 to accept as a logo a three-beam star - a symbol of the brand's success on land, water and in the air.

During the Second World War Daimler-Benz produces trucks for the German army, however, the two-week air bombing by the Anglo-American Air Force in September 1944 turned Daimler-Benz Aktiengesellschaft into a pile of ruins. Postwar time is a good opportunity to launch a line of medium-heavy trucks. The new models retained the rounded shape of the cockpit, but used a new 6-cylinder OM 312 engine with 90 horsepower. The model became popular, as it perfectly suited for commercial and industrial transportation.

In March 1959, Daimler Motoren introduces a new base truck for the L / LP 322 and L / LP 337 models. From this moment, the cabin designs with a long bonnet are replaced with new cabs with a shortened hood and cabs above the engine.

In the 80s, the production of Mercedes-Benz trucks is expanding due to the opening of new factories abroad. In the 90s the company opened its own used truck centers, and also produced a new heavy truck Actros (1996).
