The company Claas was founded in 1887 by Franz Claas Sr., as such, specializing in the production of dairy centrifuges. In 1913, a car mechanic August Claas takes under his leadership a small enterprise of his father - Franz Claas. A year later, joining forces with the brothers Bernhard and Franz acted under the sign of Gebr Claas - "the brothers Claas".

The Claas brothers were convinced of the possibility and necessity of producing a combine harvester in European fields. Work on the creation of a prototype combine was started by them in the 1930s. Success in the company came in 1936, when Augustus Claas developed a trailed, that is, a tractor-driven combine harvester with a side harvester - the first harvester for harvesting in Europe and manufactured in Europe. It was a multifunctional machine - "three in one": mower + thresher + knitting machine, "Mah-Dresch-Binder" (MDB). Under good conditions, a farmer could harvest 30 tons of wheat per day with the help of this combine. The next year, serial production of grain harvesters MDB was launched.

The first self-propelled combine, that is, with its own engine, the company Claas brought to the market in 1953 This scheme caught on in agriculture very quickly. Over the next decades the enterprise developed ever more powerful combines for all types of grain, all climatic conditions and for all fields of the world.

In 1966, the corporate color of Claas products changed - it acquired a light green color. The Senator harvester is the first in the new design. From a technical point of view, it was marked by a new design of the drive, which allowed Claas to become the world's first producer of combine harvesters connected by a power drive. Subsequently, Mercator combines appeared.

1967 - the first baler with a floating piston Claas Markant was developed. By 2000, Claas had produced up to 130,000 such balers.

1969 - after the acquisition of the farm machinery Josef Bautz, forage harvesters appear. A year later, with the purchase of the Speiser crushing plant from Göppingen, the range of Claas products was replenished with mowers, rake, tedders and towing machines (Volto, Liner, Disco, Cargos and Jaguar).

1970 - the most successful series of large-sized combine harvester Claas Dominator. This series will exist for more than 40 years. As part of the modernization, Dominator is being perfected by intensive shaker, 3-dimensional cleaning, Contur harvester, and later Auto Contur.

1976 - the company presents the first roll baler Rollant 85. The press uses not tapes, as usual, but steel rolls. The roll press system became the benchmark for presses with a fixed chamber and made Rollant the leader in the Western European market.

In 1981, a combine harvester with the Dominator CS cylinder system appeared on the market. Soon it was renamed Commandor. In 1990, the Commandor harvester set a world record in the UK, threshing 358 tons of wheat for 8 hours.

In 1992, Claas opened the production of combine harvesters for harvesting rice in India. Territorial production and sales of Claas products cover more and more countries and continents: North and South America, Russia, India.

1995 - the new Lexion series with the Hybrid system. Lexion is the first among combine harvesters to use a hybrid thresher and separation system.
