MAN Trucks History





MAN Group is a German holding company that produces trucks, buses and engines. The headquarters is located in Munich. The company consists of three divisions:

1.MAN Truck & Bus is one of the leading manufacturers of commercial vehicles in Europe. It produces trucks MAN, ERF, STAR, as well as Neoplan buses;

2. MAN Diesel & Turbo - manufactures diesel engines, industrial turbines and compressors;

3. MAN Ferrostaal AG - a division that deals with the design and construction of high-tech manufacturing enterprises.

55.9% of the company's shares belong to the Volkswagen Group.

MAN Group dates back to the 18th century, when in 1758 in the Ruhr region of Germany the first heavy industry enterprise of the region was founded - the St. Anthony ironworks. In 1808, three plants merged: St. Antony, Gute Hoffnung and Neue Essen. In 1814 the new enterprise produces the first steam engine. In 1840, an engineering plant was established in Augsburg, and a year later Klett & Comp was formed. in Nuremberg.

In the 1960s, the brand produces models with a carrying capacity of 5 to 20 tons. At this time, the company begins to work on the L series, which is distinguished by an all-metal cab located above the engine and streamlined wings with integrated headlights. Their carrying capacity varies from 4 to 8.5 tons, and under the hood are six-cylinder engines with a capacity of 100-160 hp.

Since the late 1960's the company has started active cooperation with the leaders of the world car industry. Together with the French Saviem MAN produces new models of trucks with an angular cabin above the engine. Together with the ÖAF Gräf & Stift in Vienna, the production of fire trucks, dump trucks, etc. is being established. With Daimler-Benz, air suspension, engines and planetary wheel gears are manufactured. With Volkswagen produced four-wheel military series F90, as well as medium-heavy trucks.

In 1986 the company received the name MAN AG, and the headquarters is now located in Bavaria. A new series of F8 trucks with a payload capacity of 16 tons comes into production, the super-heavy modification is capable of lifting 105 tons.

In the 90s the cars of the brand are being updated: the L 2000 series replaces the G 90, the M2000 - the M 90, the F 2000 - the F 90. The electronics, the air suspension, the steering mechanism, the braking system, the driver's seat change.

In the early 2000s a new generation of Trucknology Generation trucks appeared with a six-cylinder diesel engine up to 12,816 liters and a capacity of up to 460 hp. They are combined with a 16-speed manual gearbox or a 12-speed automatic. This series won the prize "Truck 2001".

In 2006, the "Truck of the Year" became a TGL with a carrying capacity of 7-12 tons and an engine of 4.6 to 6.9 liters.

Now, MAN SE sells its products in more than 120 countries around the world. It has established joint ventures in India, Poland, Turkey, China, the United States, the UAE, South Africa, Uzbekistan, Portugal and Austria.
