Avia Truck History





Avia company started its activities in 1919 on the basis of the aviation workshop in a huge hangar, located near Prague. It was here from the very beginning of the Second World War, and up until 1959 was based assembly of aircraft, among whom was a Soviet IL-14.

Production of his first car company started in 1946. It was the 7-ton trucks Skoda models 706 R and the buses Skoda 706RO. In 1967, the company Avia approved a licensing agreement with the French company Saviem the organization of the production of two models of SG2 and SG4. Purchase a license meant a lot and helped to raise the frame to a new automobile, the level of compliance with international standards.

In 1968, the assembly line went down the first trucks brand Avia - they were light models A15 and A30 carrying capacity 1.5 and 3.0 tonnes respectively. They had installed a brand new 4-cylinder "diesel" with direct fuel injection, which has a capacity of 72 and 80 hp (in different versions). Cars are also equipped with a 4-speed gearbox. Wheel suspension was installed lever-spring, front - independent; A30 in the back of a truck leaf springs installed.

At the end of the 70 model was replaced by a new truck A15 A20, which differed in the carrying capacity of 2 tons. Trucks Avia A15 and A20 produced with integrated metal vans and heavier models A30 - with Flatbed and as the chassis for the installation of various bodies.

The company Avia in the 70s of the last century has gained considerable popularity, helped by new developments in the automotive industry, which immediately introduced into the production plant. In the USSR, actively sold the sample 1982-1983 model years - A21 and A31 in 1,7-3,4 ton payload, has a more powerful engine (3596 cc. And 83 hp..). The launch of these trucks over 15 thousand. By the mid-80's capacity enables to produce about 150 000 vehicles per year of various modifications. The lion's share of cars for export, mainly - in the Soviet Union and the countries of Western Europe, deliveries were small.

After the Soviet Union collapsed, the company Avia lost the largest customer. Countries of the former USSR bought a little car, because it was necessary to seek new markets.

In the 90 was a new wave of modernization of automotive equipment, in this connection, all the old models of Avia proved uncompetitive and is virtually sold. The company has come a production crisis, and its leadership to think seriously about the future. In 1995, it established a joint venture with Daewoo, which was called Daewoo-Avia. After that, even for several years produced upgraded older models, but with new engines and updated cabins.

Manufacturing again gaining momentum. It was produced models A60, A65 and A75 with a payload of 3.2-4.8 tons, and three years later they were joined by more and 5.5-ton model A80. The joint venture Daewoo-Avia to produce up to 20,000 cars a year for the needs of the Czech Republic. In the late '90s it has been developed completely new model of AD100, which immediately gained enormous popularity. However, in 2000 the company Daewoo went bankrupt, so the company Avia truck production, including a new model of AD100, was virtually halted.

After a long lull in 2006, the production capacity of the company Avia was bought by the Indian truck maker Ashok Leyland. Since the factories Avia trucks was started under the brand Avia Ashok Leyland Motors.

Average annual production volume amounted to about 25 000 vehicles. Basically we developed large trucks with carrying capacity from 6 to 9 tons, which are successfully sold in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Great Britain, Ireland, Slovakia, Spain and many other countries.

At the end of 2006, the company officially presented the public series models D120, D110 and D100, which had 12-, 11- and 10-ton lifting capacity, respectively.
