FAW Brand History

On July 15, 1953, China's first Automobile Corporation registered its First Automobile Works (FAW) name, which marked the beginning of the creation of the first automotive plant, and gave a powerful impetus to the development of the automotive industry in China. For its fifty-year history, the FAW Corporation has made many important steps aimed at developing the industry in the country.

From the first day of operation to the present day, FAW Corporation takes the leading position in the Chinese automotive industry. Despite the fact that initially the corporation FAW started its activity only as a manufacturer of trucks, later it occupied the sector of low-power trucks and cars. In 1991, working in close cooperation with Volkswagen AG, FAW creates and introduces new production capabilities with an annual output of more than 150,000 units.

In 2002, the FAW and Tianjin Automobile Industry Group Corporation merged, giving rise to a joint venture and cooperation with Toyota Motor Corporation. At present, FAW's production strategy focuses heavily on the production of cars, while maintaining a dominant position in the truck industry. FAW Corporation owns 30 subsidiaries, and FAW also controls interests in 16 partially owned subsidiaries. Among them: FAW Jiefang Automobile Co., Ltd. and FAWER Automobile Parts Co., Ltd, which are wholly owned by the Corporation; Tianjin FAW Xiali Automobile Co., Ltd and Changchun FAW Sihuan Automobile Co., Ltd, whose shares are sold on the stock exchange; FAW Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., which are joint ventures of Sino-foreign.

FAW's products are delivered both through the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, the northern provinces of Julin and Heilongjiang, and through the eastern province of Shandong, and the south-western province of Sichuan. The FAW corporation also includes a center for the development of new technologies, materials and products. Total assets of FAW corporation exceed 106.2 billion yuan, which leaves about 12.8 million US dollars, at the enterprises of the corporation employs more than 124,000 employees.

FAW develops its production lines in six different areas of vehicle production, including low-tonnage, medium-tonnage and large-tonnage trucks, cars, buses and subcompacts, with a total sales volume of over 6 million vehicles. FAW Corporation plans to maintain its leading position in the domestic market, while developing its products to new international markets in parallel, implementing a carefully planned strategy to create an extensive global sales and supply system.
