DATSUN Brand History

The brand's freight line began with a 1934 truck model, which was later used as a base for the Datsun DC-3 Roadster. A series of small trucks was based on Datsun 14, 15 and 17 passenger cars, which were manufactured until the beginning of 1944. Next came the almost identical models 1121 (1946) and 2124 (which were produced from 1947 to 1949). In 1939, 3135 were released and a year later - 4146. D 1951 5147 appeared, which two years later was finalized and renamed into 6147.

For the basis of 120 was taken sedan Datsun 1000 (series 110). The first machine of this series was released in January 1955. The engine of the cargo van had 250 horsepower. As a gearbox used a four-speed mechanics. A little later the models were released: 122 (the years of production from 1955 to 1956), 123 (the years of production from 1956 to 1957), 124 (years of production from 1957 to 1959), 125 (years of production from 1959 to 1960). 126 (years of production from 1960 to 1961)

The 220 pickup series was developed in November 1957. In appearance, it almost did not differ from the previous Datsun 120. At the time of release of the new Datsun 220, the production of cheaper 120 did not stop until 1961. The car was produced until 1958, until new representatives of the second generation came to replace it: 221 (the years of production from 1958 to 1959), 222 (developed in 1960), 223 (developed in 1961). The cars were based on the Datsun 210 sedan series and had two engines from Nissan with a capacity of 37 and 48 horsepower. The latest model 223 installed a newer engine capacity of 60 horses. Pick-ups were available in two versions of the body: a Double Cab and a Van. All representatives of the second generation had an independent front suspension with torsion beam, but in 223 the suspension system was completely changed. In 1958, the Japanese 220 pickup truck was exported to the American market under the Datsun brand.

In August 1961, the new Datsun series was launched at number 320. It was produced before 1965 and had three versions: 320, 321, 323. Datsun 320 inherited the body and frame from the predecessors 120 and 220. The trucks had an excellent load capacity of 500 kg with their own relatively small dimensions. Absolutely all representatives of the 320 version had a four-speed gearbox and reached a speed of over 95 kilometers per hour.

Datsun 520 was produced from 1965 to 1969. It was installed a new engine in volume of 1.3 liters and a capacity of 67 horsepower. The car had the following versions: Single cab 520 Single cab LWB G520 (extended wheelbase) Double cab U520 Van V520 Version 521 had a flatter hood and front fenders, as well as an updated design of the radiator grille. The car was equipped with a 77 horsepower engine and later a 95 horsepower engine was installed. A compact pickup 520 was on sale in the US market until 1968.

The sixth generation of trucks from Datsun had the designation 620. The car was manufactured from 1972 to 1979. Initially, the car had a simple cabin, which in 1977 was replaced by King Cab. A small truck was equipped with a motor of 77 horsepower, which developed a speed of 135 kilometers per hour. The volume of the engine was 2.2 liters. In 1978, Datsun 620 received minor cosmetic changes. The grille and the front bumper have changed.
